Waves for Wednesday – A few fun ones…make sure to pack the wetsuit

Wednesday is looking like a surf day.

We are going to have a mix of overlapping S-SW swells (180-215) coming in from a couple of different storms down in the SPAC. There will also be a mix of weak NW swell (290-300 but mostly over 295), and some building local WNW-NW windswell coming in from our outer waters. Looks like the swell mix will hold steady through the day…with another shot of SW swell arriving in the afternoon.

Sizewise…even though we have a lot of different swells, they aren’t super big. Since they are coming in from all over most breaks are going to have some sort of surf. Average spots with some S and WNW exposure can expect surf in the knee-waist high range with some inconsistent chest high sets at the breaks a little more open SW energy. The standout SW facing breaks and the really good combo spots (mostly in OC and SD) will be in the waist-chest high range fairly consistently along with some shoulder high+ sets showing during the lower tides. The bigger waves will still be a tad inconsistent…but fun when they show.

Before we get to the weather here is a quick note on Tuesday’s conditions…yeah Tuesday ended up being pretty clean, it sucks to get the forecast wrong, but Mother Nature has got a pretty solid track-record of playing by her own rules and if she wants the wind light, there isn’t much our weak-sauce little computers (or forecasters) can do about it.

Anyways, looking back at what set up the lighter winds…we basically got lucky on Tuesday. Monday’s winds pushed out the eddy/overcast set up we had going and then building high-pressure got an early start on moving over our area. The new ridge settled in faster thanks to a combination of “now colder” ocean temps and the clear evening skies that cooled off the air-mass over the coast and helped to set up a bit of a land-breeze to counter the onshore flow that was supposed to continue through the morning…which was cool for us as surfers (if you were paying attention), but lame for my forecast calling for onshore wind in the morning.

Ok enough of that…let’s move on to Wednesday. It looks like the eddy has been disrupted enough that our wind will remain light for Wednesday morning. Current forecasts are calling for light/variable to light/onshore flow for the morning…with wind speeds holding below 3-5 knots for most areas. These winds do shift onshore after mid-morning and will eventually come out of the W-WNW around 12-15 knots for most areas.

With winds staying lighter…and some playful sized waves on tap for the expose areas…tomorrow is looking pretty surfable, particularly this summer’s standards. I think that the morning will be the best call…but we will have to let the -1.0’ low tide fill in a little or shape may be a little drained…I bet the good spots will end up being pretty fun as the tide rolls in. One thing to keep in mind…I am getting emails from a lot of you guys saying the water temps dipped down to the low 60’s/upper 50’s in some areas, so I would plan on bringing the wetsuit if you don’t want your ‘nads to fall off.

Tuesday’s Surf – Offshore winds with some new NW swell

Tuesday will be a surf day…again nothing huge, even with the new swell, but the offshore winds and sunny skies will make a good argument for paddling out.

Our swell will be a mix of sort of holding WNW-NW short-period energy (not totally windswell but very similar), some new NW swell (290-300), and some trace SW swell (200-220) that will hold through the background. Again most of the WNW-NW swell energy (from both swells) will be coming in around the 290-300 degree range…which means that there will be a fair amount of swell shadowing…check out the CDIP swell map and you can see how the energy will be pushing through the islands and around point conception.

Most spots are going to be in the knee-waist high range tomorrow…smaller and less consistent at spots without NW exposure. The better WNW-NW facing spots will be in the waist-chest high range…as well as a few of the better combo breaks. The top NW facing breaks, in Ventura, the South Bay, and parts of San Diego, will have some chest-shoulder high sets…particularly as the new, longer-period energy starts to fill in during the afternoon.

We will have offshore winds for the morning. SB and Ventura areas will see NE winds 10-15+ knots (with gusts nearing 20-25 knots at times). LA down through San Diego will be more NE around 5-10 knots but still nice and clean. Looks like winds will stay light through midday and then turn variable onshore by mid-afternoon. With these sort of conditions I would keep an eye on things around the end of the day…good chance that winds will lay down or even turn offshore again…so there may be a chance for an evening cleanup.

So like I said…Tuesday will be a surf day…nothing spectacular for most areas, but rideable and clean throughout our region…and a few “more-fun” spots that can pull in the NW energy. I would plan on bringing your smaller-wave gear to the beach…longboards and fishy boards will probably be the most fun…a few of the top NW spots might let you get away with something a little sportier.

Hey gang…from the comments I saw on the forecast yesterday it sounds like the regional forecasts aren’t as fun as this one. They are a bit of a pain to do…so if you guys dig them let me know. I will probably put up a poll in a little bit…

A few from this morning

The swell mix managed to send in a few playful peaks to the local beach break this morning...unfortunately the tide and the swell itself made for some long waits between the bigger set waves.

Surf for Thursday – The small combo continues

Thursday is looking like another surf day…but the mix of swell will lose a little of its pop and the wind will pick up a bit earlier than we have seen over the last couple of days.

In the water we are going to continue to have a mix of NW energy, both short and medium period, coming in from (290-300), and a blend of overlapping SW swells (190-220).

The average spots will hold in the knee-waist high+ range, mostly off the windswell. The better exposed breaks that can pull in a bit more of the swell combo will be in the waist-chest high range, and maybe a little better on the lower tides. The top combo spots and really good NW windswell breaks will be more consistently around the chest high range with some less consistent shoulder high sets mixing in. Again the high tide that peaks midmorning really flattens out a lot of spots…so either plan on hitting a break that handles the extra water…or try and surf on either side of the peak of the tide.

Winds look OK in the morning, not super great, but not bad either. Look for mostly light and variable winds for most areas, with a touch cleaner conditions through OC and the South Bay, and a touch more onshore texture through North LA up through Ventura as well as a bit around North San Diego.

I still think that we will be able to find a few fun waves tomorrow at those good combo spots…other breaks will be rideable but sort of soft. Beach breaks continue to look like the best call, particularly if they have a hefty high-tide sandbar. The better exposed points and reefs will be decent but weak on the NW sets…and inconsistent on the SW ones. I thing that fishy boards, quads, and boards with a bit more foam will be the most fun…but you might be able to get away with a thinner board if you are a smaller surfer.

Swell update – New SW-swell showing the 20’s

The first part of the new SW swell is starting to show this morning.

Our surf isn’t huge by any means for this dawn patrol…there are a few sets starting to sneak through at the well exposed breaks. More waist high waves at the better spots (mostly in South OC, Northern San Diego and Northern LA). Top breaks are seeing chest high+ waves on the mornings tide push.

While it isn’t big yet, it is showing some nice long-period energy on the buoys this morning. Check it out…I always love when a swell shows on time.

Look for this swell to fill in gradually through the day, with the peak of the SW’er hitting over the weekend. New S swell starts to overlap this one starting Sunday night and we can expect bigger surf as we head into next week.

If you need more details make sure to check out my long-range forecast and the swell-alert that I sent out earlier this week.

Tuesday’s Surf – Practice swell

Tuesday will be a surf day.

We will have a decent mix of SW swell (190-210) and some local windswell on Tuesday that work to put some playful surf into the exposed beaches. It won’t be great, or that consistent, but the mix of light winds and rideable waves will be a good reason to get in the water.

Wave heights are going to be around the waist-chest high range at most of the exposed spots...a little inconsistent at times but fun when it shows. The standout SW facing spots, mostly through South OC, North Los Angeles County, and Northern San Diego, will be in the chest-shoulder high range on the sets...again expect a little bit of a wait between sets.

Winds look good with light and variable conditions through morning. There may be a few pockets of fog texture as the big fog bank rolls in and out at times. WNW winds 10-12+14 knots will move in through the afternoon.

Basically it will be a pretty average surf day...small cross ups on the combo spots and a few decent little waves at the points/reefs...the surf will be pretty similar at most of the exposed areas so it won’t be worth driving around a ton. I would probably stick to your small-wave gear, fishy shapes or thicker boards, to get a little more out of the in-between sets. It will be a good day to get in the water shake the dust off before the bigger swell later this week (also a good time to scope out the sand bars to see what might work the best).

Here are the tides...watch that low-tide in the early morning.

Waves for the weekend – Playful and a touch cleaner

Hey gang....I am going to be away from the computer for a few days (non surf related) so this forecast is going out a bit early. The forecast will be back to its regularly scheduled randomness on Monday. Here are the nuts and bolts for the next few days.

Saturday

Saturday is looking like a surf day...nothing stellar...but cleaner than what we had at the end of the week.

We are going to see a mix of holding SW swell (200-220), steady WNW windswell, and peaking SE swell (160-175+180) from Tropical Storm Dolores.

Average spots will be waist-chest high with some plus sets at the better combo spots and SE facing breaks. Top spots, particularly the good combo breaks, and the best SE facing spots, will be around chest-shoulder high...maybe even a couple of bigger waves on the lower tides. Looks like the biggest surf will be in the summer San Diego areas, Orange County summer standouts, and the better spots in North LA. (sort of what you should expect from SE-SW swells).

Winds will be cleaner in the morning...more light and variable conditions early but with a few pockets of bump here and there at the more exposed beaches. WNW winds around 10-15 knots move in through the afternoon.

Saturday Tides
01:33AM LDT -0.2 L
08:08AM LDT 3.2 H
12:02PM LDT 2.5 L
06:32PM LDT 6.1 H

Sunday and Monday

The mix of SW and WNW swell backs down slowly while the tropical SE swell drops out pretty fast.

Wave heights will continue in the waist-chest high range for many of the average spots...less consistent than Saturday. Top spots still see some chest-shoulder high sets but again the bigger sets will be less consistent. Expect smaller and less consistent surf on Monday.

Winds look clean in the morning on both days...light and variable with a hint of onshore flow through the early morning. WNW winds build in through midday and peak around 10-15 knots by the afternoon.

Surf for Friday – maybe I should add a title

Friday will be a surf day...overall nothing great, but still fun in the right spots.

We will have a mix of S-SW swell (180-210) coming out of the Southern Hemi, some quickly fading SE swell (160-170) from former TS Blanca, and some increasing NW windswell.

That tropical swell showed up on Thursday with a bit more energy than I was expecting...a few of the better exposed SE spots had some shoulder-head high sets. It definitely didn’t show everywhere but if you were around SE facing spots in North OC (and a few of the other good SE facing spots in the other counties) there were a few decent sized waves.

Friday’s wave heights will be pretty similar to Thursday’s...average exposed spots will be around waist-chest high on the lower tides. The better S facing spots and good combo spots will be in the chest-shoulder high range on the inconsistent sets. The standout S spots (that have some SE exposure) will be more consistently in the shoulder high+ range through the morning but will lose size and consistency as we move into the afternoon.

The slight eddy conditions will also continue on Friday. We can expect mostly light and variable winds through Santa Barbara, Ventura, and LA tomorrow. Orange County and San Diego will see slight southerly winds around 5-6 knots through the morning. WNW winds 10-14 knots move back in through mid-afternoon.

Like I said it looks “ok” tomorrow...nothing really stands out, other than a few of the top SE facing spots, and those won’t be worth driving very far to look at. Still I think it will be a surf day...we have light winds and low tides in the morning as well as a playful swell mix...add in that water temps are climbing out of the cellar (somewhere in the 61-63-degree range) and it makes a good case for getting in the water.

Surf for Thursday – Playful mix and better winds

Thursday is looking like a surf day.

It won’t be great but the eddy is starting to break up so conditions are looking cleaner for tomorrow and it looks like beach temps are going to be creeping up as well.

In the water we are going to have a mix of SW swell (180-220 coming in from all over) and some WNW-NW background energy (a mix of local windswell and some other medium period energy).

Most spots are going to see waist high surf...with a couple of larger waves sneaking through at times. The standout spots are still going to pull in a few chest-shoulder high sets...but they will be on the inconsistent side.

The local winds are going to mellow out this evening and there is a new high pressure sort of edging over the region that is going to shut down the eddy circulation for a couple of days. Look for light and variable winds tomorrow morning with more moderate WNW flow around 10-12 knots by the afternoon.

While it won’t be worth driving all that far tomorrow it does look like you can have some fun if you paddle out in the right frame of mind. I think your smaller wave gear would be the most fun...mostly because the SW sets are inconsistent and most of the waves coming through are sort of burgery windswell. The combo beach breaks will probably be the most fun...but don’t count out the well exposed reefs/points either.

Here are the tides...

Monday’s Surf – Playful and a bit cleaner

Monday is looking like a surf day…again it won’t be stellar but there is some surf in the water and the conditions will improve as the coastal eddy that tweaked us on Sunday blows itself out.

We are going to have a mix of SW swell (190-210), medium period WNW energy (290-300), and some local NW windswell.

Most spots are going to hold in the waist-chest high range while the standout SW facing spots and the good combo breaks, mostly through San Diego and Orange County, see some inconsistent shoulder high sets.

Weather looks a bit better…it will still be a little overcast and june-gloomy in the morning but the eddy winds won’t be nearly as strong. Current forecasts are calling for light and variable winds through the morning with some moderate 10-12 knot W-WNW winds for the afternoon. Overall there may be a touch of texture at some of the more exposed beaches but if you stick to spots that have a little more wind protection, high-cliffs or kelp or something, it will be fairly clean. Check out the COAMPS for the dawn patrol tomorrow.

I think that it will be worth getting a few waves in the morning…the low tide will have a few spots sort of drained out but the better sandbars should have some playful sections, particularly the combo beach breaks. I wouldn’t spend a ton of time driving around, just because the swell isn’t all that big or consistent…but it will be worth motivating if you are in a reasonable range.

Oh on a totally random note…I got roped into watching America’s Funniest Videos with my almost 4-year old. I don’t know about the rest of you but watching that show definitely makes my 'nads hurt in empathy. Anyways...I am off to do some skateboarding down the giant ramp I made out of cardboard into my pool filled with broken bottles and gravel. (It should end well)

Sunrise is about 6:20am or so.

Waves for Wednesday – Better winds...water is still a bit poopy

Looks like Wednesday is going to be a surf day.

Water quality will still be poor but winds and waves will be much better organized. Overall the surf is going to be smaller as the storm swell fades out but there should be enough energy leftover to pull in a few fun ones at the more exposed spots.

On average the W facing breaks will be in the chest to about shoulder high range. The top NW facing spots see some shoulder-head high sets...biggest through the morning. I want to stay conservative on this call because so much is riding on the windswell which is going to fade pretty fast...so expect sort of playful sizes through the morning but be on the lookout for some bigger sets if the wind/storm swell manages to hang on a bit longer. You can see on the buoy that it is already on the way out...(add in the fact that the swell periods are so short and you can expect a lot of swell decay over a short time period).

Weather on the other hand looks nice. Winds go light and variable to light offshore through the morning and stay variable below 10-12 knots through the afternoon. There may still be a bit of warble to the shape but it will be leftover bump rather than new wind chop. Expect some scattered clouds but rain should be done for now.

The NW facing spots are going to be the best on Wednesday...San Diego and Ventura will be the biggest and the most consistent...but enough of the winter spots in other regions will be fun size as well. Shape is going to be the dumpy, close to shore, windswelly peaks with some occasionally punchier waves from a mix of long-period WNW energy holding in the background. Beach breaks will likely have the best shape, with the windswell-liking points coming in a close second place. Watch the high tide in the morning...it may be a little boggy until it drops.

Waves for the Weekend - Mostly Rideable and with a little more SW swell on Sunday

Looked like there were still plenty of fun waves on Friday...I got a lovely case of the sewer ear so I stayed out of the water to try and dry it out (it might be time to drill out the old ear canals soon) ...but I went down and wandered the beach aimlessly at lunch and saw some decent sets coming through. (And naturally a couple of buddies had to tell me how fun it was both in the morning and during lunch...which is always the case when you can't surf...the jerkys). Anyway...

you know Egon, this reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole in your head

Saturday and Sunday are going to be surf days...not super big or even that consistent but it should be fun if you time the tides/conditions right.

We are going to have a mix of fading SSW swell and local windswell on Saturday. Most spots will be in the waist-high range while the standout S facing breaks in Orange County and San Diego see some chest high (maybe chest high+) waves on the best sets.

Sunday we will start off with more of the same but by the 2nd half of the day we will have a new SW swell (210-220) start to move in from the Southern Hemisphere. Most spots will stay in the same waist-waist high+ range. The standout SW facing spots in South Orange County and San Diego will have some more chest-shoulder high sets arriving as we head into the afternoon. (Look for this new SW'er to peak on Monday).

Winds look mostly light and variable for both Saturday and Sunday morning. Onshore winds out of the W-WNW build in to about 10-12+ knots through the afternoons.

Like I said above...I think it will be fun...nothing outstanding but playful, rideable, and clean. I think that the points/reefs/beach-breaks will all be about the same shapewise...there will be longer rides at the points/reefs...but more hollow and speedier sections at the beach breaks...sort of a trade off. I would still probably try and get on it during the morning since the tides will be a bit lower, just starting the tide push, and the winds will be nice and light. It is sunny and a weekend so expect a crowd...that way if you find an empty peak you can be pleasantly surprised.

Tuesday's Surf - a little more swell

Tuesday will be a surf day...nothing exciting sizewise but it will be rideable particularly during the lower tides.

We will have a mix of fading SSW swell from the weekend, a new (but small) pulse of SW energy (195-205), and some local NW windswell.

Most spots will continue to hold around waist high, with the average S-facing breaks hitting chest high+ on inconsistent sets.
Standout S-facing breaks, particularly the good SW facing surf spots in South Orange County and North San Diego, will have waist-shoulder high surf with an inconsistent bigger set sneaking through at times. The bigger waves will be pretty sparse in the morning...but consistency should improve by the afternoon as the new swell fills in more.

Winds should be decent in the morning...mostly light and variable early on...then onshore out of the WNW around 10-15 knots by the afternoon.

Overall I expect Tuesday to be on the slow side...there will be surf...but the wait between waves and the higher tides will keep it sort of fair, rather than fun. I think the small wave gear will probably be the best call, that way you can make the most of the in-betweener sets, and not just sit around shooting the shitola. I would probably try and get on it early before the higher tide shuts it down...plan on surfing around the higher tides if you can.

Here are the tides for Tuesday.

Waves for Wednesday – More S swell!

I like waves…even if they are a little closed out. Waves are definitely more fun than no-waves. Now that I got that off my chest…it looks like we are going to have some more waves tomorrow.

The new S swell started showing a bit on Tuesday…it even got an earlier start than I was anticipating. Check out the Dana Point buoy this afternoon.

yeah I have got issues

This new S swell will fill in more overnight and peak on Wednesday as it mixes with some minor NW windswell.

Most spots with some S exposure will be around chest-shoulder high…with a couple of sets sneaking through on the lower tides.

Standout breaks, mostly through Orange County and North San Diego, will have surf in the shoulder-head high range with overhead sets mixing in.

Shape is going to be a bit suspect…beach breaks are going to be pretty walled, and the will be some current to go with it…so if you are looking for “quality” waves you are going to have to stick with the reefs, points, and the really good sandbars. I wish there was a little more windswell to break it up…but we are going to have to make do with what we got.

Winds will be light through the morning with some areas of light-onshore texture. W-NW winds around the normal 10-12+ knots will be on tap for the afternoon.

Considering the wave-drought we had over the last couple of weeks I think this swell will be worth driving around a bit to find quality waves. Remember this isn’t a macker swell or anything so don’t get too crazy with your wave hunting. And also keep in mind that this is the first swell we have had in a while so a lot of people are going to be trying to get some as well. (at least school has started for a lot of people). Have a good one…drop me a line if you get a few fun ones tomorrow.

Wednesday's Waves - wave heights still creeping up

Wednesday will be a surf day...it will still be on the small side but it will be bigger than the last couple of days.

We will have a mix of SW swell, some minor S swell, and some local windswell. Most spots will start to settle into a more consistent waist high range with a few waist high+ sets. Standout surf breaks, mostly in San Diego and South Orange County, will see waist-chest high surf with a few rare chest-high+ waves.

Winds are forecast to be light and variable again in the morning...just some light texture here and there. W winds around 10-15 knots will fill in through the afternoon.

While it still isn't a great swell-mix in the water it will be more rideable than Monday/Tuesday. I would still recommend trying to hit up your local combo spot rather than driving any sort of real distance...your local spot may not be the biggest in SoCal but it won't be worth the gas to hunt down a wave only a foot or so bigger. You will have the most fun on your small wave gear, (fish and longboards). I actually think the combo beach breaks will be the most fun, particularly on the lower tides, just because you can still find a zippy section on the shallower sandbars.

Friday's Surf - isn't spring over yet?

Friday should be a pretty fun surf day...at least through the morning.

There will be a new SW swell (200-220) starting to peak and a mix of WNW windswell and leftover S-SW energy holding in the background. Most spots will hold in the waist-shoulder high range. Standout breaks, mostly through San Diego and South Orange County, will have sets hitting the shoulder-head high range.

Winds are expected to be light and variable through the morning and even light-offshore in a few spots. Onshore winds settle back in by midday and will strengthen up to about 10-15 knots by the afternoon.

If you live in SD or close to South OC then you are in luck because those areas are going to be your best bet tomorrow. They will have decent exposure to the swell and should be nice and clean through the morning.

I am sort of two schools of thought about whether it will be worth driving for...on one hand we haven't had very good surf for a while, and even though this isn't a great swell it is better than it has been. On the other hand the SW'er is going to be inconsistent and shadowed a lot of the time, hitting only a few spots well...and the top break for this swell, Lower Trestles, has a freaking contest going on right now so access to the break is limited and all of the other nearby spots are going to be littered with pros warming up for their heats (and pissed off locals).

You will probably be a lot less aggravated if you stick close to your home spots and try and make do with what swell is showing in the water there...but if you have the time you might skip past Trestles and check a few other north SD spots.

Weekend Wave's: Fun in the sun

While the surf won't be stellar this weekend it does look like we can have some fun...particularly since the weather is supposed to be extra nice along the coast. (which means that people in the Inland Empire will be spontaneously bursting into flames when they walk outside).

Surfwise we are going to see a slight increase in wave heights as a mix of small WNW energy and slowly building S-SW swell move in and help out the surf.

On average most spots will hold around the knee-waist high range for both days...but a few of the standout combo spots, mostly in San Diego, will have some inconsistent chest high sets. These waves will actually get a little more consistent with just a touch more size as the swell mix strengthens into Sunday.

Winds look clean for both mornings...mostly light offshore to light and variable. Afternoon winds come in out of the W around 10-15 knots.

Like I said the surf won't be super exciting this weekend but it will have a few playful waves at the better breaks. Personally I think it will be an excellent weekend for beginner surfers...the surf will be mellow and still uncrowded enough that they can get a few waves without getting in each others way. Being a bigger guy I will probably stick to the longboard this weekend but if, on Sunday, I see a few more chest high sets sneaking through I might try to get a little session with my fish...I will probably pack both in the truck. Besides with weather in the upper-70s to low-80's along the beach it will be worth spending some time at the coast.

Friday's Surf: I wish the weekend would get here already

Sorry about all the random posts today...for some reason I am quite bloggy. I will warn you that I will probably post one more this evening because there is a pretty good looking SW swell lining up for Baja, Mainland Mex, and Central America next week.

Anyway on to the surf.

Friday will have a few waves but overall it will be on the small side and probably better for longboarding than anything else.

We will have a mix of small WNW windswell energy and some weak SW swell. Again most spots will hold around knee high...maybe knee high+ on the sets. Standout combo spots, mostly through Orange County and San Diego will have surf in the waist-high+ range.

It will be clean in the morning with winds starting off light and variable. Eventually the winds will turn onshore out of the W-NW around 10-15 knots during the afternoon.

Your best bet is to break out the log...find some cold water wax and work on your nose-riding. There won't be a lot of push to the surf but a few of the beach breaks with decent sandbars should have a faster section or two. I would try and surf early...the lighter winds will definitely help shape...once the bounce gets to it in the afternoon it will be pretty ugly.

Tuesday’s Surf – A few ones in the AM

Tuesday will be a surf day…well ok…it will be another surf morning.

We will have a mix of windswell, fading SW energy, and a few random background pulses floating around. Most spots will be in the knee-waist high+ range. Top combo breaks will be in the waist-chest high range…with a couple of larger sets lurking around San Diego.

Winds will be mostly light and variable for spots from Santa Barbara through Orange County. San Diego will see some variable onshore texture…but it should be on the light side as well. Afternoon winds come onshore out of the W around 10-15+ knots.

Tuesday will be real similar to the last couple of days but with smaller wave heights (yeah that is just great isn’t it). So your best bet will be to get out early, try and pick off a few playful ones at your local combo spot, and then cross your fingers that the wind holds off for a while. Small wave gear or just a good utility board will be the call tomorrow…don’t expect any critical drops or anything. Personally I am going give it a quick cam-check in the morning…if it looks good then maybe I will motivate…it will be a lot more fun than going to the gym.

Monday’s Surf – Happy Easter!

Hey Gang Happy Easter!

(You should be reading this on Sunday...if not then you are probably abusing your company's internet policy)

I hope you all got to enjoy an incredible day out at the beach today…(there were even a few waves before the tide got to high.) Surfing when it is 80-degrees along the beach, even when the waves are small, is still a pretty good time.

Anyway enough about Sunday on to Monday…

Monday will be a similar day to Sunday (heh yeah I am retarded sometimes), it will be a surf day in the morning but the building tide and generally smaller swell will start to shut it down through the early afternoon.

We will have a mix of leftover WNW energy and some decent but inconsistent SW swell. Most spots will be around knee-waist high+. The standout combo breaks…mostly through Orange County and San Diego…will have a few chest high sets.

Winds and weather will be similar to Sunday as well. Mostly light and variable to light offshore winds in the morning…and light onshore winds in the afternoon. It should be sunny and warm most of the day too…but watch for some patchy fog in the morning for some areas.

Really with these types of swells, and weather, there is not much point in driving to far to find surf…your best bet is to check your local breaks and if it isn’t totally flat, paddle out, grab a few and then sit on the sand and get some sun...that’s what I will be doing tomorrow.
