Surf for Monday – Another surf day

Monday is looking like another surf day…the swell from the weekend will still be hanging around and the conditions will be pretty good.

Our swell will be a mix of overlapping WNW pulses (270-300) and some very weak background SW swell. Both of the WNW’ers peaked over the weekend and will be on the way down slowly on Monday. Fortunately there will still be plenty of surfable energy in the water and we can expect fairly consistent surf at any breaks that have exposure to the W-WNW swells.

On Monday the average W facing breaks will see consistent chest-shoulder high surf with some head high sets mixing in as well. Shape will be a little soft through the morning thanks to an early day high tide, but you should still be able to find some fun waves at spots that can handle a higher tide. Top WNW-NW spots in places like Ventura, the South Bay, and San Diego, will be running consistently head high to overhead on the average sets…but with some well overhead surf still pushing in on the biggest sets.

Winds look good on Monday with mostly light/variable or light offshore (near passes and canyons) for all areas. Conditions will be nice and clean through the morning but there may be a bit of onshore texture by the afternoon as the winds shift a bit more to the WNW.

Overall we have another day of decent surf on tap. The surf will be good sized at most spots but it will be a little fickle on the sets, and the shape, depending on where you are. Points and Reefs are going to be the best shape and have the biggest crowds, so you will have to weigh the quality of the surf against the crowd frustration. A few of the “really good sandbar” beach breaks may have a few corners but in general expect the more exposed beach breaks to be pretty walled up on the bigger sets.

Remember that even though the swell is pushing in some surf into almost every exposed spot the actual size and conditions are going to vary greatly between the regions. Make sure to read the regional forecasts for more details.
