James Taylor breaking his back on a wave in South Africa

I ran across this video while I was working today and I thought I would share it with you. As a guy with back trouble I winced the instant I saw the title of this video and getting your spine hurt is never a good thing...but I had to watch nonetheless.

It is crazy that this was all captured on camera...but for James sake I am stoked that he is around to narrate it, even if it means a lot of rest/therapy for the next several months. Hopefully he will get better soon.

oh, man! did not need to see that.

I can relate.. My board hit me in the face under water and hyper extended my neck backwards. Being in the water during a spine injury is not cool. Back to surfing a year later! Heal fast James.

Jesus, that's brutal.

Glad he will be ok. South Africans are truly some of the best people in an emergency because they live in a very wild country where anything can happen.

made me rethink pulling into closeout bombs at the local beach break!

James, Heal fast. God gave you another day to live for a reason. Serve His purpose and know true freedom and happiness. All this is gonna end one day...better to have served God through his son Jesus Christ than to have served ourselves every day.

religious banter be gone! ugh!
anyway, how did he not break his back on the first wave?
so nice to see fellow surfers rally around a family member. james, you've got a friend!

no, the religious dude is right. every day is a gift from God. every surfer should know that well. if you don't, you are a pitiable man, and an ingrate for the blessings you have reaped from the sea. get well, James. the joy of the ocean awaits your return.

no the religious dude is wrong. yes, we are all grateful. i don't think the other commenter is ungrateful. i know i understand how blessed i am to wake up above the soil. but no one wants to hear a sermon. keep the stoke. keep the appreciation. keep the sincere awareness of life and its blessing. keep it all. but leave your bible at home.
